Simple Ways To Achieve Your Dreams With Your Online Business Idea
While achieving your dreams might not be a simple undertaking, setting yourself on the proper path to do so can be. Many entrepreneurs undervalue goal setting and the impact it can have at any stage of your business.
The best training that we ever participated in taught us how to properly set goals for ourselves — and our business. By setting yourself with some larger goals first (and being very specific about them might we add), will allow you break them down into smaller, more achievable milestones, that still give you the sense of accomplishment along the way. With this, we also encourage you to create your big goals, and then ask yourself the question of “What then?” until you no longer have those answers. You might be surprised at what goals come from this brainstorming session, as they may be wilder and more grandiose than you expected. (Which is NOT a bad thing!)
Take a look at this example:
Goal: I want to leave my corporate job in 2 years.
Bigger goal: I want to leave in one year.
For the sake of this post, we aren’t going to elaborate a ton on the larger goals, but rather focus on the smaller ones.
Smaller goals:
- Develop services and/or products
- Implement pricing structure
- Develop marketing materials
- Create marketing strategy
- Collect leads
- Pitch to at least 5 leads per day
- Successfully onboard at least 4 clients within 8 months
These are just a few of the goals that can stem from “I want to leave my corporate job in one year”. Naturally, the timelines will vary depending on the capacity you can withstand while also holding your corporate job, but you might even be able to leave it sooner, or it might take a bit longer. It depends on how specific you are with your goals and how dedicated you are to achieving them.
Now let’s talk a second about goal setting in general for a minute …
We’re sure you want to grow, expand on new ideas and make a success breakthrough (not matter what that may look like!). Creating this kind of plan for yourself is only going to happen because you are going to make it happen. So, here’s what you need to do first …
- Be clear about your goals and what you’d like to achieve.
- Take a stand for what you believe in. And invest in yourself.
- Make a plan by setting real, measurable and attainable goals.
- Decide how you’re going to set clear — and organized — actions.
- Think positive and condition yourself for success.
- Give yourself permission to make extraordinary things happen.
Remember, it’s not about working harder … It’s about working smarter and focusing on the things that will really drive your business. So, write it all down. Prioritize your thoughts and make lists of ways that you could possibly seek help elsewhere.
Starve distraction. Feed your focus.

Another thing you’ll want to consider in the beginning stages of your business is creating a manifesto — which will help you in more ways than you may imagine and is a worthwhile exercise in itself; it will help you clarify your thinking and give you the confidence boost you may need — especially in the beginning stages.
You may be wondering what I mean by that, or even possibly what a manifesto is …
A manifesto documents what your business believes. It shines a light on your perspective, your mission and your values. Having a manifesto is shorthand for good business and content marketing practice. But, having an utterly amazing one makes people think “this is a business with true meaning”.
The truly best manifestos are created with the customers in mind, but they are more than just a promise. By spending a significant amount of time brainstorming your business, its structure, processes, systems, and of course actually getting your business itself set up, it should take several months for this to happen. The foundation(s) of your business is not something you want to rush, as everything you build on top of it will need solid blocks beneath it.
Great manifestos think big. They document the change you want to bring to the world. And as you may have noticed, the power words we chose not only reflect who we are as a business and who we are as unique individuals, but they’re all about the right people … THE CLIENTS!
So, when you’re ready and if you haven’t created a manifesto already, here are some questions to consider before you get started…
- When it comes to your industry, what really winds you up and fills your soul with passion?
- What do you feel everyone else gets wrong?
- What could be so much better if people only did something about it?
- If you were “in charge” of your industry, what is the one thing that would need to stop happening right this very second?
- What matters to your customers? To you as a business owner in your industry?
- How does your approach make things better for your customers?
- What are the top 5 “rules” you want to break down for what you can offer better than anyone else?
Manifestos are all about belief, inspiration, and passion.
So, to round things out nicely for you today …
If you are just starting a new business, we recommend that your first few months of goals should mainly focus on the “building” phases. And of course, there’s nothing to say that you can’t go back and update or change them completely later, but at least putting the thought to onboarding processes, what systems will you use, have you registered with the appropriate government agencies, do you have some branding ideas lingering and ready for creation, etc. — these are things that need to happen. They might not seem as glorious as working for clients, but quite honestly, we loved this part of the process the most as you are literally creating your dream business!
You’re smart so start exploring all your options!
And truthfully … how can it get much more exciting than that?!
