Digital Secrets To Creating And Selling An Online Course With No Audience
It can seem a bit scary to try and figure out how to launch a course with little to no audience. You spend countless hours (and money!) on social media posts and ads in hopes that you’ll get some students along the way — but who has time for that? Ugh … just the thought of “who’s going to listen to what I have to say?” or “do I even have a unique voice or perspective on this?” might start to creep in.
Well, the answer is simple. And no matter what you’re thinking or feeling right now, there ARE people out there who WANT to hear your voice, want to opt into what you’re offering — and will pay for it!

When you first begin considering creating an online course, whether in your business or as a side hustle during maternity leave, there are two things to keep in mind that we’re going to walk you through to help set you up for success.
- The absolute most important factor you need to keep in mind is to keep your course SIMPLE. You don’t need to be creating a course that is 4 hours long when it could be delivered just as effectively in a fraction of the time. People on the hunt for courses these days are looking for the biggest bang for their buck — which now includes a time investment. So, it’s important to keep this in mind: most of us have something we can teach others in about 30 minutes or less.
- You can launch a course without having a massive audience — or one at all! Utilizing platforms where you can create, launch, and sell your courses can be a great start regardless of where you are in your course creation journey.
When developing your course, keeping it simple is the best way to make it worth your time — and for those who will be taking it. As you practice creating courses and begin to get more comfortable, your personality will begin to shine through which will engage your audience even more. You will also be able to streamline your production process, refining the steps and saving yourself time, which in turn will increase your return on investment (ROI).
There seems to be an attachment to everyone needs or wants more — more content, more products, more options. But the reality of it is this: one thing most people don’t have more of is time.
So, we highly recommend keeping focused on your content outline when creating your course to ensure all the key information is delivered in the most concise and efficient way possible. This way, the amount you end up charging for your course would not need to reflect the duration of it — it’s the value of the content within the course that matters the most!
Then once everything is set up to your liking (and please oh please don’t get caught up on perfection, you can tweak as you go or even offer a trial round to your first set of students at a discounted price while you work out the kinks) all that is left is for you to deliver your content!
To add a bit more insight to this topic, I recently listened to a podcast episode from the Female Entrepreneur Association called “The Easiest Way to Create and Sell Your Online Course (Even If You Have No Audience)”, where one of the guests on the show compared launching courses on Udemy to being in a marketplace — everyone is there because they’re ready to buy something and they’re looking for what’s right for them. Whereas on social media, not everyone is there to learn a new skill and with the ever-changing algorithms, who knows if you’re even hitting your target audience!
That being said, an added bonus to having your course on a platform (such as Keap which is what I offer to all my wonderful clients) is that your students can leave reviews to your course, boosting your authority and expert-level status which will leverage your course credibility all the while making it more visible to others. Further to that, you can email your students at any time! #BONUS
This includes sending them marketing material or releases for new courses, which if they already have completed one of your courses and really enjoyed it, they’re more than likely ramped up to purchase more of your courses or might recommend it to someone they know.
So, always keep top of mind that course creation should be kept simple for them AND you.
One of the guests on the podcast we referred to above mentioned that she had gotten to the point that she creates and launches a course in just THREE DAYS. On the first day she does the outline, the second day she records it, and the third day she does any necessary edits and launches it. Granted, she’s created many courses and has had great success with each of them, but she doesn’t overthink her process. And that’s the important part!
Taking the path of least resistance and finding a method that works best for you will define whether or not you see success immediately. Success to you might even just mean launching your first course — and we’re ready to high-five you when it does launch!
I truly believe that establishing and growing additional pillars to your business is a great way to generate additional (and automated) revenue streams that can make a huge difference in your business. And it can all be done with little to no existing audience. So please stop overthinking the process and questioning your knowledge and skills and get started with creating a course TODAY!
